Qualified Charitable Distributions

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows you to make a gift directly from your IRA to a qualified nonprofit like the Newfound Lake Region Association. Because the funds go straight from your IRA to the charity, the gift amount may be excluded from your taxable income and, if you are 73 or older, satisfy part or all of your Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs)

Why make a QDC?

  • A tax-efficient way to give. If you are 70 ½ or older, a QCD allows you to support the causes you care about while potentially reducing your taxable income.
  • Satisfy your RMD. If you are 73 or older and required to take RMDs from your IRA, a QCD can count toward that requirement and direct those funds to meaningful impact instead of taxable income.
  • Reduce your overall tax burden. Because QCDs are not included in your adjusted gross income (AGI) they may help:
    • Lower your tax bracket
    • Reduce the taxable portion of your Social Security benefits
    • Potentially decrease Medicare Part B and D premiums
    • Preserve eligibility for certain tax credits and deductions
