Explore the Watershed

Education is a critical part of our work to protect Newfound Lake. By connecting people of all ages to the Newfound Watershed, we inspire curiosity, build environmental literacy, and encourage stewardship of the lake and its surrounding lands. Whether you’re a student, educator, family, or community group, we offer programs that bring watershed science to life.

Visit Grey Rocks

The Grey Rocks Conservation Center is a community space for education and conservation. With public access to the lake, walking trails, interpretive exhibits, and classroom space, Grey Rocks is a hub for hands-on learning and exploration. Whether you join us for a scheduled program or visit on your own, Grey Rocks offers opportunities to connect with the natural world and deepen your understanding of watershed stewardship. Learn more.

  • From youth activities to guided hikes and presentations, we have something for everyone. See upcoming events here.
  • Step into the role of scientist and help researchers collect valuable data by participating in our community science efforts. Our volunteer scientists help collect data on water quality, bird species, milkweed plants, and more! Learn more.
  • See Newfound Lake in a new way aboard an EcoTour! June through mid-September our EcoTour guides will introduce you to the history and ecology of the lake on this two-hour boat tour. Book now.

For Community Groups

Bring an NLRA expert to your group, classroom, or meeting! We offer engaging talks, presentations, and hands-on activities tailored to your audience. Topics range from watershed science and conservation practices to invasive species prevention and lake history. Programs can be adapted for clubs, libraries, civic organizations, and other community groups. Request a speaker.

For Schools

Our work with local schools enhances student experiences in watershed science and environmental education with activities aligned with Next Generation Science Standards and New Hampshire’s Environmental Literacy Plan. School programs include:

  • Collaborative classroom work that explores local ecology while practicing science, math, and literacy skills.
  • Community science opportunities, such as monitoring milkweed as part of a national project led by the Milkweed Adaptation and Research Education Network.
  • Field trips to the Grey Rocks Conservation Center, where students can investigate habitats and engage with exhibits that highlight conservation.
  • Professional development for educators, offering innovative ways to integrate outdoor learning and hands-on science into the classroom.
